step forward
I am very happy to report that, in spite of my headache (or perhaps because of it), I have completed the composing of FIELD MUSIC: ASH. This piece took me two years to write; that is not to say that I worked on it continuously for two years, but that it took that long to form itself. I don't push a piece unless I have to. Rather, I work out ideas and then let them percolate in my subconscious until they are ready. Now I have to edit the score, something I hate doing. But the hard part is over. I feel great relief and also confidence that it is good, and that the (very awesome) performers for whom I wrote it will do a beautiful job. It will be performed throughout Europe early next year.
