cold

Last evening, after a long and tiring day, I took the train to Chelsea to meet B for dinner. It was frigid out, and the streets were strangely deserted. We were the only people in the restaurant. We were seated right in the front, in the window, presumably to attract other diners. I joked that since I was facing the street (B had has back to the window) I was probably scaring people away. I fell asleep on the train going home, something I almost never do. You see, years ago, coming home late at night in the bad days of the MTA, I fell asleep on the 1 train and ended up past the last station and a conductor woke me up. Stupid, embarassing, and dangerous, since back then--it was 1985 or so--subway crime was rampant. I had a good time at dinner, though, and the subway nap felt good.

I love this photo. I've never been on a subway (well, on the Metro in Paris but - is that a subway technically?) I've always wanted to visit NYC...the whole city vibe, the cultural diversity, art and people and food. Salt Lake has its own highlights but it seems like a different planet from NYC. It's ridiculous that I've never been!
